J.F.Gregory Park was formerly a rice plantation. In 1925 the land was bought and cultivated by Henry Ford, who among other things grew iceberg lettuce and soybeans on the site. It is named after his plantation foreman who lived there and cultivated the land.
Today the park has a 3-mile walking trails built on the 300 acre historic rice field which is part of the Georgia Colonial Coast Birding Trail. A large covered pavilion is utilized during community events at the park like the Great Ogeechee Seafood Festival and the 4th of July Festival. A Veterans monument has been constructed on the site. Six large slabs of granite commemorate 6 wars the United States has fought within the last 100yrs. I have to say a proof reader might have been nice before the engraving started!!
